Jeff "The Snowman" Monson

Welcome to the official Web site of Jeff "The Snowman" Monson. Thanks for visiting and come back often-this site will always give you something new. It's been a long time coming and a long time for Monson fans to wait, but the wait is finally over. On this site you can read about Jeff, get inside Jeff's mind in his personal blog, see his schedule, find a seminar near you where he is appearing, and even shoot Jeff an e-mail. And you can rest assured that Jeff will get your e-mail. He might not be able to answer it immediately, but he will get to it.

Jeff Monson is one of the world's top submission grapplers and is coming into his own at the highest level of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). At 5 feet 9 inches tall, 240 pounds of solid muscle, and 36 years of age, he is taking MMA on both sides of the ocean by storm.

Jeff is one of the most recognized MMA athletes in the United States, and after his electrifying "Submission of the Night" win over the very capable Brandon Lee Hinkle at UFC 57, people in the MMA scene around the world are taking notice of him. And it's no wonder. Jeff is coming off his 14th MMA win in a row, and he hasn't lost a single match since 2002. Just imagine how good you can get in 3 or 4 years when you work as hard as Jeff does. His record of 24 wins and 6 losses includes 13 wins by submission. His fans the world over just witnessed him choke out and put Brandon Lee Hinkle to sleep on the biggest PPV event ever staged by the UFC, live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on February 4th of 2006. Monson fans saw the Snowman follow the Hinkle victory with a hard-fought win over Marcio "Pea Da Pano" Cruz in UFC 57 and his "Knockout of the Night" win over Anthony Perosh at UFC 61. He recently lost his title shot in UFC 65 against Tim Sylvia by decision, and is eager to train harder to get another chance.

Monson, a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is a powerhouse in submission grappling. In both 1999 and 2005 he won the prestigious Abu Dhabi Submission Grappling World Tournament in the Heavyweight Division. He is a multiple event winner at NAGA, Grappler's Quest, and the Budweiser Invitational, where he continues to compete. Monson is ready to issue a challenge to or accept a challenge from any fighter in the world.

There's a Reason He's Called The Snowman….

The Brazilian Fighters gave Jeff his nickname back in 1999 at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Grappling Tournament. He came in as an unknown but beat four Brazilians in a row to win the title. Each new guy he faced was more difficult than the previous guy. As Jeff beat his opponents one by one, they said he was like a snowball: white, compact, and rolling downhill, getting bigger and stronger as the tournament went on. Then wouldn't you know it ... Snowball was translated into Snowman and Snowman stuck. Snowball or Snowman, in a fight he is an avalanche headed straight for you.

TEAM SNOWMAN

In between fights, the Snowman trains at his Victory Training Gym in his home state of Washington. However, when it is crunch time, Jeff makes his familiar pilgrimage to south Florida for his hardcore fight preparation. Monson perfects his tactical and technical elements under the watchful eye of his MMA and jiu-jitsu coach Ricardo Liborio and Conan Silveira of the American Top Team (www.americantopteam.com). American Top Team is one of the elite MMA teams today and is the home of many world champions. Jeff spends time training in England as well, at Red Corner gym in Coventry. Paul, Glen and Matty work with Jeff on his striking technique. He builds himself into a fighting powerhouse with the help of his longtime friend and strength and conditioning coach, Juan Carlos "JC" Santana of the world-renowned Institute of Human Performance (www.ihpfit.com). Jeff also follows a nutritional program designed by JC, who asked Dr. Mark Rosenberg of the Institute for Healthy Aging (www.antiagemed.com) to employ his expertise and specially design cutting-edge antioxidant and buffering formulas specific for the Snowman. Together, the American Top Team, the Institute of Human Performance, and the Institute for Healthy Living make up one of the most potent and complete fighting teams in MMA today-TEAM SNOWMAN.

If you want to see the Snowman prepare for his matches at the Institute of Human Performance, check out the Final Countdown series-these workouts are barn burners! See Jeff go to the brink of exhaustion and train like the champion he has always been. The Final Countdown series replays Jeff's complete workout leading up to his fight against Marcio "Pe De Pano" Cruz and Brandon Lee Hinkle.

If you want information on Jeff's workout routine, diet, and so on, go to www.intocombat.com. The people at the Institute of Human Performance and Intocombat are at the forefront of MMA training, and they know what it takes to win the fight. The Final Countdown series will show you exactly how Jeff gets it done 10 to 14 days out from the fight. In this series you will see what nobody else sees: the incredible work it takes to be at the caliber of the Snowman. It is not all genetics! Everyone sees the knockouts, the choke, and the victory and they say, "Wow-how lucky is he." What they don't see is the work, the pain, the sacrifice. The Final Countdown shows you that although you can't train heart and height, you can train to a point of spiritual transcendence. Through the training that Jeff goes through at the Institute of Human Performance, he transcends to a place where only warriors are allowed to go: the House of Pain. This is what Jeff has to say about that journey:

The Snowman's last words!

"I have been working with JC Santana since 2001 and every year we go to levels I never thought possible. The first workout with JC was just a body weight workout at ATT-immediately he earned my respect. Since then, every training camp at the Institute of Human Performance has been a journey that superseded the previous. The House of Pain workout was my first shot at what JC Santana calls "UFC at IHP." At first, I did not think that type of training was made for humans - I did not think it was possible to do what JC was asking of me. But together we made it through the House of Pain and then some. You have to see what I'm up to now! The strength training, conditioning, and mental approach that JC Santana designed for me were a perfect fit and were instrumental in my winning the Abu Dhabi Grappling World Championships and getting to the top-ranked position in the UFC. I also implement Santana's training approach and techniques when I train my own students in my Washington-based Victory Gym.
